Hover is only required for 15% of helicopter missions. Gyrocopters use an unpowered rotor to maintain flight reducing costs and improving safety. This project studies the feasibility of a large low-carbon Part 27 gyrocopter, largest of its type. This aircraft will provide short take-off and landing improving over fixed wing aircraft and be safer and cheaper than helicopters. To determine the feasibility of the product 5 key points are studied:* Market: Define the target market, identify market characteristics and requirements, provide a clear route to market for the final concept, and engage with operators to obtain potential LOIs* Certification: Discuss with certification authorities on the product limitations and define a route to certification. Understand the certification requirements for operators of this vehicle.* Social: Determine the pain and gain points on all stakeholders (Users and general public), this examines noise, environmental impact, privacy and security concerns as well as comfort & cost.* Technical: Through iterations develop a product that best suits the market, certification and social aspects.* Financial: Generate a financial model for the aircraft development, sales and study the financial cost-benefit.The project will support to bring the UK to the front of gyrocopter knowledge and improve the understanding of the utility aircraft market, potentially if feasible ARC Aerosystems will develop the first large gyrocopter putting the UK in an undisputed leading position.
