Futraheat is developing a high temperature heat pump product for industrial heat decarbonisation based upon its novel TurboClaw compressor technology. A turbo-compressor re-defined; TurboClaw's low-speed operation yields engineering, manufacturing and operational cost benefits which promise to deliver the most cost-effective high temperature heat pump solutions to industry.To date, Futraheat has developed a 300kWt prototype-demonstrator to validate the novel application of TurboClaw as a high temperature heat pump compressor. The demonstrator successfully applies a single-stage (of compression) TurboClaw compressor to deliver a 30C temperature lift over the boiling point, but has not been designed for production and adopts conventional oiled bearings where only an oil-free solution will deliver TurboClaw's advantages in full to end users.This project will extend temperature lift to 60C with a two-stage TurboClaw design, opening up the addressable market; incorporate magnetic bearings for an oil-free solution; and productionise the solution through investigating and developing the optimal production methodology and processes to support cost-down and scaling ambitions.The project's key output will be a pre-production, minimum viable product (MVP), ready for piloting in industry and subsequent sales production.
