British families buy 80 million pairs of shoes for their children every year. On average, kids' shoes are used for only four months, and up to 85% end up in landfill. Around 75% of a typical shoe currently consists of non-sustainable materials, including fossil-fuel and non-sustainably derived plastics.Pip & Henry is an emerging brand in the UK's children's footwear market but we aspire to become synonymous with sustainability and innovation in the sector.Our project is focussed on developing innovations for the reduction of the environmental impact of children's shoes, particularly in relation to:* the length of time an average shoe is used;* maximising the potential for recovery and circularity of materials of construction.For our customers, our success will lead to a reduction in the frequency of their purchases, and knowledge that they and their children are playing their part in helping to address the UK's environmental targets.
