Henley Marketing Ltd (HML) is collaborating with Biffa Waste Services Ltd (BWS) and Brunel University London (BUL) with support of John Lewis (JL) to develop a radically innovative and sustainable approach to the UK homewares industry. Currently, almost all homeware products are made from virgin materials (synthetic polymers/plastics) and imported from Asia. This is a highly carbon intensive approach with minimal consideration to carbon emissions or circularity of design, manufacture or consumption. It goes directly against the UK's net zero goals and existing homeware brands are not meeting these challenges. Our unique collaboration of experts will develop unique homeware products made in the UK from 100% recycled plastic - creating a radical and collective change in the sustainability of the homeware category. Benefits include: (i) Developing a unique, circular business model for the UK homewares industry, making it a global innovation leader in this large category; (ii) Significantly reducing the import of virgin plastic products in the UK; (iii) Increasing consumer awareness & engagement in recycling, and thereby reduce amount of waste plastics that go to landfill or incineration; (iv) Reducing the carbon footprint of the large UK homewares industry and in doing so, helping the UK to achieve its net zero goals; (v) Creating at least 32 new jobs within 5 years post-project.This approaches leverages & extends the unique skills of the project team:* Henley Marketing Ltd (HML): experts in new product design, development & commercialisation of homewares products and brands in the UK and around the world;* Brunel University London (BUL): leaders in new material development & lifecycle analysis;* Biffa Waste Services Ltd (BWS): experts in the collection, sorting & reprocessing of waste.
