英文摘要
This is a collaborative project between CP Cases Ltd in London, Matrix Polymers Ltd in Liverpool and the Polymer Processing Research Center at Queen's University Belfast. The project aims to develop a 100% bio-based polymer or as high bio-based as technically possible for the production of a new line of ruggedised cases. The project will provide a commercially feasible solution to the whole rotational moulding industry that will enable supply chain resilience, environmental sustainability and enhanced proven field performance. The global focus on climate change and the goals agreed at COP meetings all rely on a reduction in fossil fuel consumption. The majority of materials within the plastic sector rely on fossil-fuel based polymers and options for bio-based materials are limited or non-existent for sectors such as rotational moulding. This project brings together a complete supply chain consortium to prototype, manufacture, test and certify a new generation of bio-based polymer materials for the UK rotational moulding sector. CP Cases, Matrix Polymers and Queen's University, Belfast will combine their pooled experience in manufacturing, advanced rotational moulding techniques and polymer compound formulation, to demonstrate and validate a novel and innovative bio-based polymer material for the manufacture of ruggedised transport and storage cases.PE transport and storage cases are used throughout multiple industrial and commercial sectors including medical, defence, broadcast, energy and marine. All the major players that operate in these markets have taken concrete steps towards having a sustainable supply chain. CP Cases is a key supplier to these markets, and will work closely with Matrix Polymers and QUB to assist their customers in achieving their own sustainability targets. The project addresses the whole life cycle of a rotomoulded ruggedised case from cradle to grave, from the raw material availability to finished product recycling aiming to introduce a circular production approach to the wider rotomoulding industry.
