Form Weben is a model that considers the needs of an individual alongside the needs to reform the fashion industry. This technique lays the foundation for a whole new system of constructing, producing and consuming clothes on demand. We grow, harvest, spin, weave, cut, sew, and finish to produce garments. These steps are usually divided into different industries, often happening in diverse parts of the world. This common production method creates large amounts of waste, and demands long transport distances of the garment. In the context of the climate crisis, this cycle needs to be rethought. Form Weben eliminates the division between textile and garment. Instead of cutting the pattern out of the textile it is set into the weave. This way garment and textile are created at the same moment.The simultaneous creation minimises waste, reduces shipping distances and removes other steps during production. This is achieved by a reconstruction of certain parts of the loom to allow more movement during the weaving process and a new way of constructing the pattern.The resultant seamless garments can be tailored to a specific body shape as they are coming off the loom individually.
