It is widely known that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world, what is less widely publicised is the shocking role of micro-fibres in polluting waterways, oceans and the human body (GOES Foundation). This is may be due to the unrivalled function that synthetics provide in terms of supportive fit and aesthetic fabrics like lace, particularly in the sports and lingerie sectors. However, this also presents an opportunity. Thanks to the pandemic there has been an explosion in comfort first lingerie brands, as well as developments in knitting technology that allow more control over shaping. Combine this with beautiful natural British yarns grown through regenerative grazing practices, and you have a chance to not only eliminate micro-fibre pollution, but also to create new markets for products that increase bio-diversity, carbon sequestration, and soil regeneration. The first step is to make a range of supportive garments that are both aesthetically desirable and does the job. As a bespoke lingerie maker for the past seven years, hand making over 200 bras in collaboration with beautiful diverse women, this is my passion and my mission.
