St Albans Greener Together is a fresh and exciting project which will empower and enable local residents and businesses to come together to create a more environmentally sustainable future. St Albans is a hive of sustainability activity, and many local projects were started by individuals wanting to do something positive, with the Council supporting their passion. St Albans Greener Together will capitalise on this activity by inspiring ideas and providing expert advice, support and funding to enable local people to bring forward practical solutions.St Albans City and District Council and the University of Hertfordshire are working with local stakeholders to develop an innovative climate change communications, education and behaviour change campaign that will capture the attention of everyone in the community. Our aim is to draw attention to the invisible impacts of everyday choices, address the psychological and physical non-technical barriers to action, and demonstrate the combined impact of everyone making small changes. It will incorporate innovative design, imagery and frequently changing messaging to reach previously untapped groups and ensure appeal to people of different ages, backgrounds and interests.A community fund will be established to support local net zero activities. Primary amongst these will be to support the establishment of a community eco-hub called The Green House, which will provide a physical and virtual space for multiple community-led activities. There will be something for everyone to get involved in, whether you want to play a role in accelerating the transition to renewable energy, learn about energy efficiency or greener travel or want to meet more people and join the community. We could have clothes-swaps, a repair café, a men's shed and working groups - there will be lots of support and activities available and opportunities for people to start their own initiatives.Our aim is to win the support of people who have previously shown little interest in environmental topics, by exploring the issues that matter to them most, such as saving money, health, congestion. We will utilise the strong network of individuals who are already interested in climate mitigation and wanting to do more to lead in this area. This includes our network of volunteer climate champions, who are trained to provide information, advice and workshops to stimulate discussion around climate change and the barriers that interfere with action.
