To help with the collection and handling of flexible plastic waste, food wrappings, crisp packets, plastic bags, magazine wrappers etc. We are designing a highly innovative kitchen counter-top waste collector and compactor. Our intention is to put the device right at the most likely point of use so that it is easier to dispose of the waste correctly than it is to put it in general rubbish and have it go to landfill. We envisage a stylish device that will augment any kitchen or hallway where a bin might be placed.The device will be about the size of a small waste basket or a large toaster and the flexible plastic waste will be baled for easy handling by council collectors and will be compatible with processes and equipment used by re-cycling contractors. The device has sufficient volume to hold about a fortnight of an average household's flexible plastic waste so will last a full collection cycle. It is easy to clean and will be sustainably manufactured in the UK at low unit cost.To ensure our device is fit for purpose we will engage with end users (householders), local authorities and waste handling/recycling contractors as part of this project to make sure our solution is designed such that it integrates seamlessly with their collection, handling and sorting equipment and with their standard operating procedures.The project outcome will be a number of fully functional prototypes that can be demonstrated to stakeholders, tested in a relevant environment and easily scaled-up to several thousand units for pilot scale validation deployments with partner organisations.We expect to generate novel intellectual property from the innovation in this project and we will work with a patent advisor to make sure it is protected and subsequently exploited to maximise its positive economic impact as well as its environmental benefit.Our team comprises engineers, technologists, inventors and business executives with the capability and determination to deliver a successful project outcome.
