Globally we use in excess of 2Million tons of Silicone Rubber a year with a C02 footprint of circa 6kg per kg of Silicone (compared to 2- 3 for plastics) It cannot and is not currently be mechanically recycled and goes to landfill where it will not breakdown for thousands of years.Adpol has spent 4 years developing a process that allows waste Silicone Rubber to be broken down and reused in the original manufacturing process representing a Global first for a UK manufacturer. Adpol has achieved this and developed a range of materials in different hardness's for extrusion and moulding, and is currently developing a flame retardant grade for use in aircraft and public transport interiors.Trademarked protected Silicrumb can be the start of mainstream recycling of Silicone Rubber. Fantastic for the environment, innovative, reducing dependency on overseas suppliers, creating jobs, and encouraging export. The drive globally with manufacturers to recycle Silicone Rubber is significant. We have close to 100 tons of waste material currently being offered to us, with reciprocal desire to buy back product made from recycled Silicrumb. Our UK grinding and mixing partners are now set and ready to produce the volumes of material needed to take on larger manufacturing projects. This project will be to help Adpol with developing, testing and promoting this product to start this process off and begin to introduce Silicrumb as a known brand and product. Starting with the Aircraft Interiors sector where we already have an established presence and the required quality certification, support in a number of key areas are required. To complete UK flammability, smoke and toxicity testing required for customers to use Silicrumb FR (Initial testing has been passed)To Produce loss leading samples and continue R&D of products working with customers. Different hardness's, colours, tear strength and of course flame retardant.Training sessions with designers, engineers, and sustainability champions with customersAttendance at targeted trade shows to promote and raise further awareness. Atlanta MRO, Hamburg Aircraft interiors, Silicone ExpoTo visit grinding and mixing partners, and customers to overcome barriers and provide training where needed.Silicrumb FR is endorsed by the UK Aircraft Cabin Interior Recycling Association, who will be working to promote us as the sole provider in the UK. Our longer term plan is to enable full circle recycling for airlines as they refurbish or strip their planes.
