英文摘要
This project will see the development of Magimix, a novel, highly efficient, low cost technology for the removal of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), which is a component of organic water pollution. DOC causes discolouration of water and is a precursor for carcinogenic species that are formed when DOC reacts with chlorine used in the disinfection process. Water companies are obliged to remove DOC from water to enable compliance with the drinking water quality standards as specified by the European Union. However, over the past two decades the concentration of DOC in UK water bodies has more than doubled and continues to rise, incurring high treatment costs that have resulted in some catchments becoming uneconomic for water abstraction using currently available technologies. This project will validate the use of Magimix, a new technology for organic pollutant removal from water, and in doing so will present both the UK and global water industry with a novel technology that enables the cost effective abstraction of water from currently unavailable blue water sources. Magimix will therefore help to maintain the security of our water supplies into the future.
