The project will seek to develop a photonics control system for a novel bioreactor capable of producing a range of micro-algae. The photonics and associated control system, will be the core technology in a 300l bench scale photobioreactor developed by Aragreen (UK) Ltd. At larger scale (4,000l & 30,000l) this PBR will be capable of operating efficiently in the UK’s climate, will utilize only a small land footprint and can be operable using treated water from waste water treatment works, as the key feedstock in algae production. Such a control system will enable to company to progress research into the effects of photonics on algae cultivation and yield improvement. The objective is to create a first generation of smart lights for a new generation of algae photobioreactors.
