With future energy systems relying on an increasing amounts of intermittent renewable energy, electricity over supply is expected will be offset by the generation of renewable hydrogen & oxygen via electrolysis. This project aims to build and demonstrate the feasibility of an ultra-high efficiency, zero emission hybrid-powertrain which exploits the properties of these gases and recent advancements in the control of ultra-high efficiency thermodynamic cycles. The world-class project team includes SR Technology Innovations (management and technical prototype development experience), Newcastle University (future ultra-high efficiency engines and thermodynamic cycles) and CMCL Innovations (advanced simulation of future fuels, combustion and emissions). The project will be carried out over 12 months with the principle objective of proving that new paradigms for Tank-to-Wheel (T2W) energy efficiency can be achieved with no tailpipe emissions using an Argon-Hydrogen Reactor (ArH2-R), increasing the 15-20% that we see today to around 50%.
