Project to develop an online platform to match buyers and suppliers of industrial parts usingthe world’s leading 3D shape-based search technology. This automation will revolutionise theglobal part-sourcing and manufacturing marketplace by bringing efficiency, accuracy, speedand transparency to the process. Sourcing will be possible in moments, rather than hours, daysor even weeks! The project offers an ideal mix of strong and well-aligned team, unique inimitable technology, and significant market opportunity. The team has been approached by one of the largestdatabases of 3D industrial parts for partnership and this project would aim to help meet thatdemand and make the rapid transition to full-scale commercial exploitation. The team consists of a PhD in manufacturing who worked with the founder of the world’slargest part sourcing website (US based), as well as 2 PhDs in 3D search technology whotogether form the world’s leading knowledge-base in this next-generation internet technology. The project is expected to take 12 months and cost £ 179,495. The estimated 3D parts searchmarket is worth at least $100 million per year, is growing at 30% annually and is untapped. The team’s technology and execution are superior to that of the sole existing company in thisarena, and thus large market share and returns are expected.Route to market will be through direct approach to manufacturers, ‘ecosystem’ partnerships,as well as syndications and affiliations for rapid expansion.Commercial scale-up will be readily possible, and there are numerous monetization avenuesavailable. Strong growth paths and exit strategies exist.Early discussions with potential users have been highly encouraging. Further, the team andidea were selected as one of 5 leading prospects in a London-wide assessment by leading VCsand investors in late August 2011.There are significant implications for UK competitiveness in both the internet and high-valuemanufacturing in
