Affimers: a novel biotherapeutic platform for the treatment of cancer

Promexus is a new biotechnology company which will be developing a novel humantherapeutic protein (the Affimer) that will address some of the shortcomings of the currentantibody based drugs. Antibodies have been very successful at treating a wide range of humandisease such as asthma, arthritis and cancer, but they are expensive to produce and because oftheir large size can only be given via an injection. Affimers should be cheaper to make andbecause they are smaller and stable, can be administered topically (for example to the skin asa cream or to the lungs using an inhaler). Our first drug will be for the treatment of cancerwhere there is a need for cheaper more effective drugs. Affimers have all the properties topotentially make the next generation of therapeutics to meet the demand of new medicines
