This project is intended to prove the technical and commercial feasibility of the “Microcomb”heat exchanger, which utilises small air passageways to improve heat rejection efficiency invehicle applications over conventional fin and tube designs. In particular, the main objectivesof the project are:- To benchmark, teardown and test the closest available technologies;- To develop analytical design tools for accurate comparison;- To design an optimised Microcomb module;- To produce a detailed CFD model for Microcomb;- To produce prototype Microcomb modules;- To extensively test prototype Microcomb modules- To evaluate the commercial potential for the product- To file patent applications for inventive features; and- To complete a detailed final report.The ultimate aim of the project is to develop a heat exchange module which is capable ofapplication in a wide range of different vehicle types, and which can be readily sized todirectly replace traditional radiators and intercoolers to provide package, emissions, fueleconomy and weight benefits.
