Large advertising displays require a huge amount of real estate and infrastructure, and createvisual noise, light pollution and significant energy consumption. We, at HaberdasheryLimited have overcome many of these challenges through the novel exploitation of the‘persistence of vision’ effect. This natural visual effect is where the human eye retains afleeting image that is displayed for a fraction of a second.Our patented Lightvert technology is to be used in a revolutionary one-dimensional displaysystem that works to create two-dimensional advertising images using the persistence ofvision effect. We aim to create the largest digital image display in the world, up to 100 metershigh.The benefits compared with traditional digital displays are:- produces a small fraction of the light pollution.- needs a much smaller real estate area.- uses a small fraction of the power consumption.- resulting in little to no lasting impact on the architecture of the building or structure onwhich it is mounted- installations significantly minimize or eliminate planning impact.Haberdashery Limited is an established London based design consultancy, creating landmarklighting sculptures and innovative marketing products, with existing clients, brands andinstitutions around the world. We have already built a Proof of Concept system, but now weare applying for SMART grant funding to conduct substantial R&D to create a full scale preproductionprototype. This prototype will both look and function as expected in the finalproduct and represents a key step to completing the evidence needed to bring the product tomarket.
