LAT Water Ltd (LATW) has developed internationally patented technology to provide clean water recovery from highly contaminated industrial water at lower energy and cost, compared to current processes, using low grade waste heat or renewables. The core technology has been proven with the assistance of awards from Innovate UK and the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy.Prototype work with customers in the UK and China has highlighted that customers require additional peripheral systems for pre- and post-treatment of the water to deliver a fully integrated commercial product. The project objective is to complete the necessary R&D to ensure that the LAT technology can provide a complete solution for customers and ensure a full commercial launch within an 18-month timescale.The LAT technology delivers cost savings to the customer of at least 60% compared to the current legacy systems and is applicable to a total annual addressable landfill market of more than £1.1 billion.Implementing the LAT system will allow recovery and reuse of scarce water resources together with reducing greenhouse gas emissions at a lower cost and lower energy for the customer than their current processes.The Innovation continuity loan is required to fill the funding gap caused by the failure of LATW's financial investor which entered Administration as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The impact of the international travel restrictions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic also prevented the Company from exploiting the work done in developing export markets, in particular China where there has been a very positive response to the first installation.As well as securing and expanding highly skilled UK jobs the project will lead to a significant growth in tax payments and UK exports to key international markets including China.
