项目摘要

This is a collaborative project led by Rockwell Collins UK Ltd (RCUK), together with Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), to address the requirements and research challenges set by the SBRI/TSB call for GNSS Antennas in full. Benefiting from the QMUL team’s long term and extensive experience and expertise in GNSS antennas, we plan to investigate innovative solutions, two in circular polarised design and one in linear polarised design, for the compact antenna element to operate in the multiple GPS/Galileo bands. The technology underpinning our solutions has already been developed within the QMUL team with a total control of IPR. We also plan to design a novel compact 2D antenna array based on the antenna elements developed to provide the controlled reception pattern antenna configuring capability for significant mitigation against jammers and interference. In addition, we will consider a range of system level issues, such as low SWaP (Space, Weight and Power) applications and R-GNSS (Robust Global Navigation Satellite System), especially the impacts of operating platform and human body on the developed antennas when interfaced with the GNSS receivers and the issue of Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) location, based on RCUK’s extensive Military and Commercial Systems application, product and customer experience. RCUK is currently active in several UK and European GNSS study programmes, including the PERMIT programme for the UK Space Agency. The proposed project will be conducted by a CAPABLE team and managed by utilising the existing well established Program Management and commercial organisation at RCUK. The output of the project will include the results of the proof of concepts investigations and the Final Report covering all the de-risking activities and a business exploitation plan.
