The JCMT Gould Belt survey and the Galactic Plane Survey have public web pages which explains the science behind the survey. For the Gould Belt Survey, the aim is to understand how stars form in nearby molecular gas clouds, and so shed light on the formation of the solar system. The Galactic Plane Survey the aim is to understand how massive stars form, and the effect they have in the plane of the Galaxy.
