This grant is to enable astronomers at the University of Birmingham to travel to a range of ground based telescopes around the world to do a range of fascinating science. In one project, we will be investigating the formation of planets outside our solar system, while in other projects we will be investigating the relationship between hierarchical structure formation and the galaxies formed within those structures. We will also be searching for local remnants of the first generation of stars in the Universe and collect data on tidal disuprtion events, supernova and other exciting transient phenomena.
