Prediction of installed aircraft jet noise requires accurate modelling of the interaction between the turbulent jet, wing, flap and pylon. The project will make further progress on a recently developed coupled framework of Large-Eddy Simulation and Acoustic Perturbation Equations solution (APE) for capturing the noise propagation. A potential combination of hybrid LES-RANS type methods (in the less important area) and wall modelled LES (in the key area of interest, e.g. nozzle exit) will be explored. The project will also work in conjunction with the latest development/progress on inflow near-wall and free-stream turbulence. Novel concepts, such as serration on the wing/flap and variable area nozzle, specifically targeting the interaction of jet and flap will be further examined.The project will complement the ongoing ACAPELLA project and work in partnership with Rolls-Royce plc, Cambridge and Southampton Universities.
