DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant): The overall goal of this research is to evaluate relevant issues confronting the integration of research findings into clinical practice, and to outline the perceived benefits of an automated, multi-use computer program for the assessment and treatment of alcohol abuse, and associated outcome and program evaluation functions. This multi-site, statewide (NM) randomized trial utilizes an automated computer-based assessment, treatment, and follow-up evaluation program to examine two empirical questions. First, does the program effectively disseminate the use of clinical (brief) interventions known to be efficacious for the treatment of alcohol and/or drug abuse across a variety of treatment settings? Second, how useful do treatment providers find an automated intervention and data management program to be, and what, if any, issues arise with respect to the diffusion of such an innovation?
