英文摘要
The 2017 Hurricane season within the Caribbean broughtimmense devastation and death to several islands, resulting in itbeing labelled as one of the worst hurricane seasons on record. This research aims to analyse and interrogate the context, challenges, and practices of the disaster recovery of the primaryeducation system. It will compare the islands of Anguilla andDominica to examine the changing development agendas in thecontemporary socio-political climate, such as those of the changingEU regimes. This research will be carried out in collaboration withthe UNICEF Office for the Eastern Caribbean and Anguilla'sMinistry of Social Development; collaboration is key to thisresearch and it aims to bring together several non-governmentaland governmental agencies working in the area. The research willemploy a postcolonial, feminist mixed-methods approach to ensureboth breadth and depth of learning under a strong ethicalframework. The main forms of data collection will be semistructuredinterviews and quantitative statistical analysis ofsecondary data on development indicators. Analysis will examineand measure the impact of: international development regimes, local political responses, the schools' capability to respondindependently, and their mechanisms to do so. Overall, thisresearch aims to promote cohesive learning within disasterrecovery to aid future responses, which is particularly importantgiven the increased risks posed for the region by climate change.
