Antidepressant and antipsychotic drug use in people with diabetes

In brief, the goals of this project are to identify the frequency of antidepressant and antipsychotic drug use among people with diabetes, and to investigate whether this is associated with glycemic control, blood pressure and body mass index, as well as vascular disease and diabetes specific complications. I will also examine the impact of antidepressant and antipsychotic polypharmacy.More specifically, I will investigate whether these associations differ by drug class or combination. This will help to inform subsequent projects aimed at identifying patients who might be at greatest risk of adverse effects from certain drugs, thus informing tailored drug prescription practices and ultimately providing personalised patient treatment. Datasets utilised to fulfil these goals will include the Scottish Care Information-Diabetes dataset and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust case register.
