The JBCA cosmology group is heavily involved with the forthcoming Euclid mission (an ESA satellite mission due to be launched in the early 2020s). The primary objective of Euclid is to understand the physics responsible for the observed accelerated expansion of the Universe (be that a type of Dark Energy or a modification to gravity on large scales). One of the two main scientific probes that Euclid will use to address this question is the technique of weak gravitational lensing. This PhD project is focussed on developing advanced statistical techniques for robustly extracting the weak lensing signal from the Euclid observations and for interpreting the measurements in terms of cosmological models. The techniques developed will also be applicable to the future LSST and SKA facilities.
