英文摘要
Multi-protein complexes constitute the most relevant molecular units of cellular function. Intriguingly, it remains enigmatic how eukaryotic cells assemble, with precision, hundreds of complexes in the crowded cytoplasmic compartment that produces thousands of nascent proteins at the same time. Recent work demonstrated that assembly of protein complexes can be initiated on nascent peptides as they emerge from the ribosome. This project proposes that these co-translational interactions constitute check-points of quality control mechanisms to ensure that only completely and properly assembled complexes are formed. This research is expected to uncover novel layers of cellular regulation that are of prime importance for the healthy state of all cells.
