Accretion discs are a critical component in many astrophysical processes, from star and planet formation to supermassive black hole accretion.The dynamics of these discs is often studied in simplified form due to physical and geometrical complexities. In this project, efficient and accurate numerical simulation methods will be used on high performance computing facilities to make progress. Specifically assumptions made in previous works relating to the symmetry or underlying physics of the accretion process will be relaxed. These simulations will be motivated by the latest developments in observational astrophysics, and yield potential explanations for observed effects and possibly predict what will be see by new missions.
