IQE plc are leading manufacture of semiconductor materials, based in St Mellons, Cardiff but with manufacturing facilities in with factories in Milton Keynes and Bath in the UK, Somerset, New Jersey, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and Greensboro, North Carolina in the US, and in Singapore. IQE products can be found in over 90% of all smartphones and in a myriad of other high technology products and systems for consumer, industrial, military and aerospace applications. IQE have developed a unique lift-off method to enable the production of very thin silicon wafers (<20 um). This ICASE project has been challenged with building perovskite tandem structures on top of the flexible silicon junction in order to make ultra-light weight, flexible silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells .
