This project will focus on the investigation of charge generation and recombination on a variety of different organic solar cells and thin optoelectronic devices and seeks to get a better, fundamental understanding of these processes. Based on these findings, main loss channels for charge carries in photovoltaic devices can be identified, manufacture processes of solar cells customized, and the power-conversion-efficiency of current solar cells and future photovoltaic systems enhanced. This highly multi-disciplinary research project requires a broad range of skills in experimental materials, solar cell manufacturing, electro-optical physics, numerical simulation combined with different, advanced data analysis as well as electro-optical transient measurement methods for a complex investigation and characterization of charge generation and recombination processes in photovoltaic devices. Additionally, the project involves a close collaboration and exchange with several groups across Swansea University (e.g. SPECIFIC) as well as with other, international leading groups, for example the group of Prof. D. Neher at the University of Potsdam, Germany. This project will be part of the Ser SAM program that aims the developing and advancing of new, applicable, sustainable and advanced materials as well as future photovoltaic and bioelectronic devices.
