This project would synthesise and study the behaviour of active colloidal gels. Because ithas for the most part been confined to quasi two-dimensional systems, the experimentalstudy of active colloids has yet to be extended to spinodal gels of active particles, whichform a bi-continuous network and are therefore three- dimensional. However, a threedimensionalactive colloidal system has recently been realised in Bristol, which permitsthe study into this novel phase of active matter. It is expected that experiments would berun concurrently with simulations, in which the supervisory team have considerableexpertise.
