Driving is a highly visual task and understanding where drivers look is of paramount importance to road safety. So far, most research into drivers' visual attention has focused on drivers from developed countries. There is little to no research into visual attention amongst drivers from developing countries. This is despite the fact that cross-cultural differences in visual attention have been found in non-driving related tasks. This research aims to explore the cross-cultural differences in visual attention by applying them to the domain of driving. This will be explored by comparing visual attention between UK and Malaysian drivers using methods including eye tracking and driving simulation. Following the exploration of these differences, the research will focus on training drivers to improve their visual search by combining optimal strategies from drivers of both nationalities.
