Sentio ergo sum. Investigating the Corporeal in Artists' Films and Moving Image Installations

My main objective of this research is to explore artists' films and moving image installations that aim to intensifycorporeal sensations and to discuss a necessity for such experiential sites now. "Sentio ergo sum. Investigating theCorporeal in Artists' Films and Moving Image Installations" seeks to consider affect as a powerful means to stimulate asensation of one's own corporeality, and also observes its philosophical implications. By approaching it through mediaarchaeology and film studies, my research would focus on investigating how spectators' bodies relate to moving image,and how this medium can evoke the bodily itself to the viewer by stimulating their sensory perception. Projected light as acarrier of an image is a unifying element that also enables creative correlations between the moving image and thebaroque aesthetics as a phenomenon which is lived and felt from within. This research will contribute to the studies ofhaptic visuality and sensuality in film and screen studies by merging media archaeology, philosophy, contemporary art,and baroque aesthetics in order to investigate the potential of moving image installations to function as sites for anexperiential critique of the established modes of sensation in the contemporary media environments.
