According to the current paradigm of galaxy formation theory, galaxies are embedded in massive haloes of dark matter. To map these dark haloes, we can construct dynamical models, based on the observed kinematics of stars and gas.In this project we will be using data of the new WEAVE-Apertif survey, which combines optical integral-field spectroscopy from the WEAVE spectrograph at the William Herschel Telescope (La Palma, Spain) with radio data of Apertif on the Westerbork Radio Synthesis Telescope (Dwingeloo, the Netherlands). The student will be adapting and expanding current modelling techniques, to take both the stellar and cold gas kinematics into account.
