This project has three aims: to complete a catalogue raisonné on the miniatures and drawings by Peter Oliver, to work in collaboration with the Hamilton Kerr institute and the conservation department at the National Portrait Gallery to analyse the work of Oliver, and to attempt to reconstruct the biography and social context of Peter Oliver. Her proposed study aims to use primary evidence such as inventories of the collection of Charles I and Charles II and court account books dating to that period to discuss the work carried out by Peter Oliver and to establish what work he completed, and furtherresearch into the art collections he was exposed to will be carried out. In order to reconstruct the biography of Oliver, and to understand his social context, I will use primary sources such as parish records, and any surviving correspondence. She also intends to research the medium of the miniatures in order to establish attributions and understand Oliver's working method through the collaboration with the Hamilton Kerr Institute. This will further assist with the completion of the catalogue raisonné. Her approach to this project will focus on primary sources and documentary evidence to supportresearch into the work of Peter Oliver.
