The combined application of high intensity walking practice (treadmill walking) and optimally tuned ankle foot orthoses in the recovery of walking function in people with stroke.The development of a combined therapy aimed at recovering community mobility in stroke survivors. The therapy is based on providing intensive and variable walking practice with a self-pacing treadmill, a virtual reality environment to provide motivation and complexity and mechanical support with ankle foot orthotics and body weight suspension.The critical part of the project is trialling this combination with sub-acute stroke participants (within 12 months of stroke) to assess feasibility and accessibility as well as providing pilot data to inform a future trial.
