Single burial traditions and identity in Neolithic Britain and Ireland

This research will investigate the traditions of single burial in Neolithic Britain and Ireland and the potential ofthis under-investigated burial rite to enhance our understanding of identities in the past. I will use both mortuaryand new scientific data to focus on patterns in the expression of identity (including age and gender) within theburial rite, as well as placing the findings within the wider context of Neolithic mortuary practices in Britain andIreland. This research will advance our understandings of these practices by exploring surprisingly neglectedareas of study within the British Neolithic: age, gender and single burial.
