'Hart Hmz': Embodied displacement and the performance of vulnerability in documentary film

A side-effect of neoliberal redevelopment has been the displacement of native communities. However, criticalcommentary of the affects of displacement on subjectivity has been peripheral in the discourse of humangeography. My practice-based research is an intervention into this academic territory: firstly, to re-conceptualisean understanding of displacement that recognises its detrimental psychic, emotional and social affects.Secondly, to investigate how the category of vulnerability might be projected, adopted and performed withindocumentary film. This creative-practice project will be based on a regeneration site in east London, and centeraround an engagement with theories of vulnerability, performance, representation, and ethics.
