I will be undertaking a qualitative case study of a hospice-run community development model of palliative care. The project seeks to understandthe experiences of volunteers within a "Compassionate Community" scheme, in order to explorehow the wider goals of changing social attitudes towards death and dying can or are beingenacted. I aim to gain insight on the motivation of volunteers, understand what they see theirrole in the scheme to be and where they see their responsibilities end. Through this I willexplore the impact and value of community development models of palliative care and theirability to build social capital.
