The unique character of historical buildings, structures and artefacts necessitates geospatial surveys to capture detail for the accurate generation of Digital Cultural Heritage (DCH). Through reality capture, Historic Building Information Modelling (H-BIM) outputs can be produced that simulate conditions, inform conservation practices and create a platform for the exchange of data. In addition, these models can form the basis from which augmented and virtual reality products can be generated for serious-gaming, edutainment and other visualisations. However, this process requires extended periods of manual processing, configuration and generation, which has limited its adoption within the cultural heritage sector. This project will look to examine ways in which the several steps of a Scan-to-HBIM-to-XR can be automated and for workflows to be optimised. This will be done by reviewing the individual steps of existing practices and identifying elements that could utilise automation. In addition, an assessment of the effectiveness for XR products generated from H-BIM will be undertaken, examining where Level-of-Detail (LOD) and Level-of-Information (LOI) can be manipulated to generate immersive experiences for users of DCH.
