Both the evolution of the pharmaceutical industry and the Children's Vaccine Initiative launched by WHO led to the genesis and development of the idea of single administration vaccines (SAVs). SAVs are controlled release formulations aiming to provide prime and booster doses in a single shot. Despite continuing efforts during the last forty years, there is no single administration vaccine formulation on the market yet. To reduce the formulation cost and enable scalability, a three fluid-nozzle spray dryer will be used. Such techniques can provide double encapsulation to address the two major challenges (antigen stability, release mechanism) in a single step. The aim is to create a novel platform that can be loaded with antigens capable of generating non-inferior immunogenicity to conventional vaccines.
