Calum MacPhàrlain/Malcolm MacFarlane (1851-1931) is a critical and neglected figure in our understanding of the Gaelic movement in Scotland and Ireland. At the forefront of the Gaelic publishing scene; the establishment and evolution of Highland and Gaelic Societies; and in the throes of a vast international scholarly network, MacPhàrlain was firmly planted in the literary, linguistic and cultural movements that defined the Celtic Revival. This project illuminates not only the historical, cultural and literary impact of MacPhàrlain and his extensive archive, but also explores this under-developed area of Celtic scholarship, namely the history of Gaelic publishing in Scotland and Ireland.
