This project carries out the first overarching study into the transnational nature of Spain's powerfulanarcho-syndicalist movement during its most important period, 1910-1939, focusing on how cross-borderlinks and flows impacted upon activists' political culture and activities within Spain. With its ideologicalrejection of nation-states, anarchism is an intriguing case study in transnational communities; but with its basein working-class neighbourhoods and workplaces, Spanish anarcho-syndicalism was simultaneously a highlylocalised movement. This project will explore that contradictory dynamic.
