英文摘要
As sessile organisms, plants are masters in adapting to environmental stresses. Recent work from the Ton lab has shown that plants employ epigenetic mechanisms to prime their immune system long-term against potential pests and diseases. This PhD project will study the interplay between epigenetic and genetic mechanisms controlling expression and diversification of resistance (R) genes in the model plant species Arabidopsis thaliana. In particular, the project will focus on the role of the Arabidopsis cytidine deaminase CDA1 in the modulation of epigenetic marks and its impact on genetic diversity. The student will use state-of-the art genetic and molecular techniques, and work in a highly dynamic lab that combines fundamental research with translational research to develop new technologies that benefit sustainable crop protection.
