英文摘要
The first in-depth history of HIV/AIDS in Scotland, this project examines local, regional and national responses to the epidemic-from the first reported cases in the early 1980s, to the introduction of antiretroviral therapies in the late 1990s. It investigates how the virus transformed queer activism, public health communication strategies, and the everyday lives of affected individuals at a time when Edinburgh was known as the 'AIDS capital of Europe'. Today, HIV prevalence is increasing worldwide. The project will make timely and substantive contributions to health history, oral history, and Scottish studies against a backdrop an enduring global crisis.
