英文摘要
This project examines the challenges of intervening inViolence Against Women (VAW) in Palestine, a patriarchalsociety, which is also under military-colonial occupation. With a focus on the Gaza Strip, the study examinesPalestinian women's perceptions and experiences of VAWas well as their attitudes toward the interventions on VAWimplemented in their communities. It critically examinesinternational secular models of interventions on VAWwhile, at the same time, exploring the possibility ofcombatting VAW by reappropriating certain religious andtraditional norms, on which Palestinian social cohesion andsurvival rest in the context of settler colonial occupation. Bydoing so, it produces new knowledge on VAW at theintersection of military-colonial violence and patriarchy inIslamic societies. This is an applied research project, which is influenced by participatory action research. Ituses qualitative methods to address how Gaza Palestinianwomen respond to VAW and how they experience themostly secular models of interventions implemented inGaza. The project will also involve key professional figuresin the field of VAW (NGOs, police, psychologists) andcommunity and religious leaders while foregrounding thevoices, concerns of Palestinian women. This is acollaborative project with two Gaza-based Palestinianorganisations-The Gaza Mental Health Programme andthe Save Youth Future Society-with which the applicanthas established working relationships. The applicant hasextensive experience in the field of women rights, and sheis planning to use the findings of the research forimplementing new community-based pilot projects onVAW after the completion of the PhD.
