This multi-media arts project will explore how meaningful, embodied experience can be produced onhandheld digital devices such as smart-phones. A range of moving-image artworks, from immersiveinstallations to portable devices, will be created to examine audiences' perceptual experience. Informedby Expanded Cinema and philosophies of aesthetic slowness, the artworks will produce new modes ofviewing that question pervasive habits of attention, distraction or speed, produced by screen-baseddevices encouraging alternative, creative, slow states such as meditation and daydream. This investigationof slow digital embodiment will subsequently be used to ask whether ubiquitous screen-based technologycan better serve society.
