This project will examine the range of tactics and technologies dictated in the existing operational guidance documents, and explore the changes in the fire dynamics for a range of different fire scenarios. The aim is to better understand the effects that various tactics will have on fire dynamics, to enable tactical decisions to be made in practice as to which technique is appropriate for any given fire scenario.The project will involve a detailed analysis of compartment fire behaviour using some laboratory scale experiments, computer fire modelling of the scenarios, and possibly some larger scale fire exercises in collaboration with the fire services.
