Immobilisation of the UK plutonium inventory many be required in the event that reuse in light water reactors is not realised. In this PhD we will develop a fundamental understanding of candidate ceramic wasteform compositions and the development of hot isostatic pressing as a manufacturing route, in collaboration with the National Nuclear Laboratory. The project will involve a placement in NNL central laboratory to undertake plutonium validation studies, which will be aligned with wider NDA sponsored research ongoing at that time.
