This project will investigate the scholarly and policy impacts of an increasing focus on gender in nuclear weapons politics. Considering the importance of gender for nuclear weapons and international security places this project at the heart of the Security, Conflict and Justice Pathway, addressing several central pathway concerns: the social dimensions of conflict, justice and equity in policymaking representation, and questions of identity and how ideas of masculinity/femininity shape the practice of international security.The project combines work across disciplines including Feminist Theory, Gender Studies and Cultural Anthropology to advance knowledge on a topic traditionally understood in IR as a non-gendered realm. The PGR will also be embedded in several research communities to assist in this. Dr Considine is convenor of the British International Studies Association (BISA) Global Nuclear Order (GNO) Working Group. This Working Group brings together researchers and practitioners on nuclear politics across disciplines at yearly conferences and in early career workshops. The PGR will present their work at BISA and GNO events, meeting other ECRs, senior academics and policymakers. Dr Considine is also part of a new interdisciplinary project on 'Feminist Interrogations of Nuclear Politics', funded by an International Studies Association workshop grant. Joining this network will connect the PGR to a network of established feminist scholars, historians, scholars of literature and postcolonialism.
